The construction of culverts on some roads at Zaare and Sumbrungu in the Bolga Central Constituency of the Upper East Region began simultaneously on Friday, 15 May 2020.
The roads linking these two communities to neighbouring communities are deplorable and replete with gullies.
The communities are normally cut off from their neighbours during the rainy season as a result of their poor condition.
At Kulbia-Bokam, a suburb of Sumbrungu in the Bolgatanga municipality, the situation has persisted for many years.
A 150-metre portion has been gradually eroded by the rains over the years forcing pupils and motorists to resort to longer routes to the Sumbrungu town.
During the rainy season, the communities get cut off and the roads become unmotorable.
It is against this background that Mr Isaac Adongo decided to intervene.
At a short meeting at the Kulbia chief’s palace to inform him about the commencement of the project, the MP said he was requested by the electorate during the 2016 election campaign as well as delegates of the National Democratic Congress during its last primaries, to intervene.
“It was in fulfilment of that commitment and the critical nature of the road as a major link to several communities to the cluster of schools and major facilities in Sumburugu that I have come to construct a 1,200-metre culvert and rehabilitate the stretch of road eroded by several years of rains and neglect”, Mr Adongo said.
"Today, I am here myself with the earth-moving machine to fulfil the pledge I made to you. I am tackling this construction work aggressively with the hope that it is completed before the rains sets in", he said.
For their part, the representative of the chief said: "It was the wish of the chief to have been here but unfortunately, an equally important schedule took him out of the region but he is gratified with the turn of events taking place in his community today and, therefore, delegated me and my other elders to come and represent him and also thank you very much for the good intervention, you have come to carry out. We assure you of our maximum cooperation in this regard."
The youth of the community, led by the Assemblyman, also pledged their support toward making sure nothing untoward happened to the progress of the project.
