A journalist with Tamale-based Diamond Fm, Sabini Sangkpi is currently battling for her life at health facility in the Northern Region after she was subjected to severe beatings by thugs during last Saturday’s parliamentary primaries.
The Broadcast Journalist who was assigned to cover the Saganrigu Constituency primaries held at the Tamale College of Education was accused of recording an incident which incurred the wrath of party thugs.
“I was there when the constituency Chairman collapsed inside the auditorium where voting was taken place…he was sitting on the high table before he collapsed. The place was a bit warm so I went outside. While outside vehicles started rushing to the main auditorium so it was assumed they were to take him to the hospital. He was being ushered outside and I tried taking a video and someone shouted he is taking a video so one of the thugs headed me and snatched the phone from me”, she revealed.
According to her, another tried pouncing on her but for the intervention of one policeman, he identified as Mr Ankrah and took her to safety.
The matter was later reported to the Tamale police and a medical form issued for attention.
General Manager of Diamond Fm, Mohammed Ibn Abdul Abdallah disclosed to MyNewsGh.com that they will pursue the matter to its logical conclusion.
