The Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona East in the Central Region, Queenster Pokuah Sawyerr has challenged Ghanaian Media to do well to set aside seven days for the discussion of non-political issues.
These seven days, the Legislator said should be used to discuss "only issues concerning development in the country."
She said: "I will challenge the media to try to discuss more developmental issues than politics. In fact, I am challenging you to set at least seven days apart and discuss just developmental issues...no politics on those days."
According to her, this will go a long way to ensure that issues concerning development are brought to fore and tackled.
Hon. Pokuah Sawyerr threw the challenge while congratulating the media on the occasion of the World Freedom Day when she noted that "On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, I say kudos, you deserve more than a pat on the back."
The 2018 edition of the World Press Freedom Day was held in Ghana on Wednesday May 2, 2018.
The occasion was used to acknowledge the work and contributions of the media to development across the globe.
The efforts notwithstanding, Queenster Sawyerr believes the media can do more if it focuses on developmental Journalism.
The Agona East MP is noted for addressing issues concerning development in her constituency.
She has so far embarked on several philanthropic works to the needy in her constituency.
