Mahama must emulate Mills and stop encouraging "dirty acts" – P.C. A ppiah Ofori

Outspoken NPP former Member of Parliament for Asikuma-Odobeng-Brakwa, P.C Appiah Ofori, has cautioned President Mahama against using his authority to open the floodgates for homosexuals to take over affairs of the nation.

This follows Nana Oye Lithur’s approval by parliament to head the ministry for Gender, Children and Social Protection despite a public uproar that she supports gays.


Parliament, on 1st February, 2013, approved the appointment of five nominees including Nana Oye Lithur, Minister-designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection, despite a public outcry over her stance on homosexuality.


The Appointments Committee of Parliament, in a statement read by first Deputy Speaker on the floor of the House, Ebo Barton Oduro, requested that the House approves Nana Oye Lithur together with the other four ministers designated by the President by consensus.


However, Mr. Appiah Ofori who had qualms to share on Nana Oye Lithur’s nomination by President Mahama, pointed out that this was a dress rehearsal by the president to unleash “dirty acts” into the country.


According to him, the late President Mills was clear and bold to frustrate plots by the gay community to take over the affairs of the nation; unlike President Mahama has done.

“Do you think Atta Mills would have appointed this woman to be minister if he was alive?,” he asked.


He advised him(John Mahama)to emulate his predecessor and avoid acts which will have an evil bearing on all Ghanaians.


The Anti Corruption Crusader also chided the august house of Parliament for approving Nana Oye Lithur’s appointment.


He was frank in his submission and maintained that the house had let the nation down.


“We must not be happy as a people if this woman (Oye Lithur) is nominated as minister. This isn’t a good omen and smacks of indiscipline...Parliament had no business approving this woman,” he established.

Speaking on Peace FM’s midday news on Saturday, Mr. Appiah Ofori stated that President Mahama was aiding frolicsome things instead of instilling discipline in the nation.


“We are only encouraging dirty acts in the country to the detriment of Ghanaians...I feel sorry for both the appointments committee and parliament as a whole.


‘Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and all other things shall be added unto you’,” he added.


He advised President Mahama to always remember to “seek ye first, the overall interest of Ghana and everybody in Ghana would be prosperous...at all times Ghana first and we must punch out all evil acts”.


“I feel so disappointed that my own good friend, John Mahama who is to continue with the good works of President Mills, has failed us all. He is my good friend and I am part of those who helped him reach where he is,” he concluded.
