The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) has lauded the government’s Nation Builders Corp (NaBCo) programme and appealed for more personnel to help carry out with road safety and traffic education to reduce crashes and fatalities on the road.

According to Mr Kwasi Agyenim Boateng, the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regional Head of the NRSC, the NaBCo programme remained relevant to the commission because their personnel had improved on its staff strength and deepening road safety and traffic education as well.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Sunyani on Thursday, Mr Boateng observed that until road traffic and safety education remained a year-long programme, little would be achieved. But he added that with the engagement of the NaBCo personnel, the commission was able to deploy personnel to transport terminals and some highways to embark on continuous education which was yielding positive results.

Mr Boateng observed road traffic education would go down well with drivers and all road users if there was no break in road traffic and safety advocacy, hence the need for more personnel to be engaged by the commission.

He emphasized that because more than 80 percent causes of road crashes were attributed to human factors, the commission was determined to extend and intensified education to other public places of gatherings such as churches, mosques and market environments, and called for support from all stakeholders.

Mr Boateng called on transport unions, commercial and private drivers and passengers to cooperate with personnel engaged for road traffic and safety education currently on-going in buses, tollbooths and lorry terminals.

He said such cooperation was required because it would motivate the personnel to do their best in carrying out with road safety education to improve discipline on the road.
