The leadership of the Persons With Disabilities (PWD) is asking government to give a ten percent quota to applicants mostly members of the Association in the ongoing recruitment of graduates onto the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO).
"Our humble appeal to President Akufo-Addo is that, people with disabilities who normally are turned away by private sector employers must have a percentage in the NaBCO".
According to Mr. Ntim Kwaku Twumasi, Executive member of the Association in the Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, , one of the challenges facing members is the high rate of the unemployment situation in the country therefore government should prioritise the interest of persons with disabilities in the recruitment.
"If the government is able to prioritise our members and absorb us onto the NaBCO program, begging for alms on streets by our brothers and sisters will be reduced", the NPP Second Vice Constituency chairman in the area pointed out.
Meanwhile, the coordinator of NABCOB, Dr. Ibrahim Anyars has dispelled claims that NABCO is being used as an avenue to employ foot soldiers of the ruling New Patriotic Party who contributed to the party’s 2016 election victory.
According to Dr. Anyars, NABCO is very genuine, devoid of any political colourisation and only seeking to employ qualified Ghanaians to reduce unemployment.
“How can we say we have 147,000+ applicants from the NPP, really? Let’s not forget that the application process is done online. There is no segment that asks for one’s political affiliation,” Dr. Anyars quizzed
Dr. Anyars added that “all NABCO knows is the qualification of applicants and not the political parties they belong to…we are doing our best to ensure that the best people are selected for the jobs.”
The scheme will this year employ 100,000 graduates under seven modules; namely, Educate Ghana, Heal Ghana, Feed Ghana, Revenue Ghana, Digitize Ghana, Civic Ghana and Enterprise Ghana
