Journalists who trooped to the Accra Circuit Court on Monday morning to cover the trial of the founder and leader of the Glorious Word and Power Ministry International, Rev Isaac Owusu-Bempah, received the shock of their lives when bodyguards of the religious leader prevented them from doing their work.
According to Angel News’ Ama Brako Ampofo who was in Court as at the time the man of God and three others were brought there for trial, security officers aligned to the camp of Prophet Owusu-Bempah did all they could to prevent journalists from entering the courtroom.
Speaking on Angel FM/TV’s Midday News on Monday, Ama Brako Ampofo said the bodyguards overpowered the police officers and managed to get all the media personnel from entering the courtroom to monitor proceedings.
And this to her is unheard of indicating that this is the first time that the court reporters have been prevented from covering proceedings.
Reverend Owusu Bempah and three others have been arrested by the Ghana Police Service for attacking personnel of the service who were at his church premises to arrest him on Sunday, September 12, 2021.
The three other suspects include Michael Boateng, Frederick Ohene, and Nathaniel Agyekum.
According to the Ghana Police, the arrest follows “creation and circulation of multiple videos containing threats and the brandishing of a weapon and the assault of some police personnel.”
A statement signed by the Acting Director of Public Affairs, ACOP Kwesi Ofori, indicated that “after critically analyzing the said video and based on intelligence gathered, the police embark on an operations today Sunday, September 12, 2021, at the premises of the church to arrest the suspects.”
“During the operation, some members of the church, believed to have been under the direction of Reverend Bempah assaulted some police officers” the statement added.
They have since been arraigned before court to face charges.
