The incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), for Wa Central constituency in the Upper West Region of Ghana, Dr. Rashid Hassan Pelpuo has described as painful and the lowest point of his bid to represent the Wa Central at Parliament when he won by just 571 votes in 2016.
He blamed the narrow win on a rift in the Wa Central Constituency as well as the emergence of a third force in the general election.
Dr. Pelpuo said the rift has however, been patched and come election 2020, the NDC in Wa Central would extend the lead into thousands.
He said this while interacting with the media after delegates retained him as the man to represent the Umbrella party in election 2020.
Discrepancies led to delays in the announcement of verified results.
After the results had been reconciled, Dr Pelpuo polled a total of 789 while Alhaji Yakubu Duogo came next with a total of 287.
The remaining, Dr. Sharif Mahmud Khalid managed to poll a total of 172 votes cast while Wahid Bampuori Iddrisu also polled 121 votes.
A total of 2 rejected ballots were recorded, thus total votes cast were 1371.
Dr. Rashid Pelpuo said he will use his retention to help the NDC get back to winning ways.
Dr. Pelpuo said initial reports by his political opponent that he would falter in his bid to represent the party in 2020 were just wishful thinking.
In the Wa West District things took a surprising turn when Superintendent (Rtd) Peter Lanchene Tuubo upset long serving MP and incumbent Yieleh Chireh.
Dr. Richard Kuuire was chosen to represent the party in Nandom, while Cletus Seidu Dapilah was chosen at Jirapa Constituency.
The Umbrella party will be represented by Bede Zieden for Lawra Constituency, Mohammed Sukparu at Sissala West while Issah Batglia will represent the NDC at Sissala East in the 2020 election.
The rest are Dr. Sebastian Sandaare for DBI, Anthony Sumah for Nadowli-Kaleo, Dr. Godfred Jasaw for Wa East and Edward Dery for Lambussie.
