Police refutes reports of picketing at Akufo-Addo’s residence
The Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, DSP Efia Tenge, has called reports of picketing by some persons at the Nima residence of the President as untrue.
Read full articleAccording to her, preliminary investigations only indicated that some four women and a gentleman who were said to be caterers under the Ghana School Feeding Programme came to the entrance of the residence to seek the audience of the First Lady over what they say is the refusal of government to pay their arrears.
“That is not true. According to the Divisional Commander within the area, yesterday around 8pm, there were some women, about four of them and a gentlemen who came to the security details at the entrance of the President’s residence and they want to seek the audience of the First Lady but they were advised that, it wasn’t the right procedure and that if they had anything, they need to go through the right procedure,” DSP Tenge said in an interview with GhanaWeb.
She further explained that “so, when anybody says there some picketing of the sort at the President’s residence, that hasn’t come to the attention of the police. From our preliminary investigations, our search did not give us anything of that nature”.
MyJoyOnline reported that the women threatened to embark on a 'naked demonstration' if their concerns and arrears are not paid by government.
The women are blaming the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Mrs Cynthia Mamle Morrison for turning a deaf ear to their plight.
