We didn’t bribe Chiefs to pacify their gods - NDC

The ruling National Democratic Congress(NDC) has debunked rumours that the party induced the Oguaa traditional Council with monies to facilitate the lifting of the ban on drumming and noise making within the enclave to pave way for the campaign launch set for this weekend.

The Central Regional Secretary of the NDC, Samson Ahianyo said the party only requested for the lifting of the ban which was later accepted by the traditional authorities through their own wisdom.

“We are living with traditionalists and our gods don’t behave like witches and wizards and they are very reasonable. If you’re really an African you’ll agree that sometimes if there is something that should be done in a particular area or shrine and the time is not due you can go and pacify the gods and use the traditional priests to pray and the gods will allow you to do whatever you want to do; provided you give them the respect and pacify them, and if they agree, no problem,” the Regional Secretary told Accra-based Citi FM Thursday.

Asked whether the NDC played any direct role or commitment in pacifying the gods, Mr Ahianyo said:” the NDC has not got any role in pacifyng gods; we’re not Akomfo(traditionalists) to play any role. We asked and they consulted the gods on it”

The ban on drumming and noise-making in Cape Coast in the Central region will be lifted on Friday, August 12. This was announced by the Oguaa Traditional Council.

The ban was imposed as part of the preparations for the annual Fetu Afahye festival, which is expected to take place from 27th August to 4th September.

The lifting of the ban comes just two days before the NDC’s scheduled campaign launch Sunday at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

Over 40,000 members of the NDC are expected to gather in Cape Coast for the launch of the party’s 2016 election campaign.
