A thorough investigation will be conducted into the circumstances that led to the killing of seven innocent citizens at Manso-Nkwanta in the Amansie West district of the Ashanti Region by 21 police officers, Regional Minister Simon Osei-Mensah has said.
He explained to Kwabena Prah Jnr. (The Don) on Accra 100.5FM’s Ghana Yensom on Tuesday, 20 November that:
“The situation is a bit dicey and, so, we have to be measured in our utterances in order not to worsen the plight of the bereaved families and also the Ghana Police Service, in general.”
“A thorough investigation will be conducted into the matter and the findings will satisfy all the parties involved.”
The police had claimed the victims, all from a Zongo community in the Asawase Constituency, were armed robbers, but an investigative committee constituted by the government to get to the bottom of the matter, concluded that there were no facts to support the story of the police.
The government has, therefore, decided that:
“The 21 police personnel involved in the incident who have been found to be the principal suspects, be interdicted by the police administration and be subjected to formal police criminal investigation into the matter”.
