Ghana defender Baba Rahman lasted the entire duration as Schalke O4 began their Bundesliga season with a 2-1 defeat away to Wolfsburg.
The on-loan Chelsea defender was given the nod ahead of summer recruit Hamza Mendyl and played the full game for the Royal Blues.
Schalke found themselves on the back foot after American forward John Brooks opened the scoring on 33 minutes.
The Royal Blues were dealt a big blow after former Manchester City defender Matija Natasic was red carded.
With four minutes to end the game Nabil Bentalib leveled from the spot.
The former Tottenham Hotspurs midfielder's goal looked to have earned Schalke a point but Wolfsburg forward Daniel Ginczek scored in the final minute to secure all three points for the former Champions.
