Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos has lamented over the form of South Africa's playmaker Percy Tau ahead of the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ghana on Monday, insisting that the new Al Ahly striker is not in the best shape for the match in Johannesburg.

Bafana lost their first points in this qualification programme and are second behind Ghana, who beat Ethiopia 1-0 at the Cape Coast Stadium on Friday while they were to a goalless draw by Zimbabwe.

The South Africans are desperate to get back into the scheme of things when they take on the Black Stars in their next Group B match on Monday and they will be counting on Tau to be in form.

The midfielder recently moved from the English side Brighton to Ahly but the lack of action before he moved to the Egyptian side looks to have affected his sharpness.

"With Percy I think you can see that at the moment he is not in the best shape," said the Belgian coach who won the Africa Cup of Nations title with Cameroon in 2017.

“It is something in the next week that he (Tau) must work on but he remains a good player and that’s the reason he stayed for longer in the game.

"I hope that in the next games in October and November we will have a better Percy. I thought Teboho Mokoena and Mothobi Mvala played very well and it was OK.”

Ghana will try to return to the global tournament when the tournament takes place in the Asian country of Qatar next year.
