Burundi's Georges Gatogato to officiate 2025 AFCON Qualifier between Angola and Ghana

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has designated Georges Gatogato from Burundi as the referee for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier between Angola and Ghana. This match is scheduled to take place at Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda, Angola, on Friday, November 15, 2024.
Read full articleAt 36 years old, Gatogato has been a FIFA-listed referee since 2007 and has significant experience officiating various CAF events, including AFCON qualifiers, the CAF Champions League, and the CAF Confederation Cup. Professionally an urban engineer, he gained recognition for his officiating during the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.
He will be assisted by fellow Burundians Rénovat Bizumuremyi as Assistant Referee I, Olivier Nibogora as Assistant Referee II, and Rodrigue Bigirimana as the Fourth Official.
Gervasio Domingos Juliao de Jesus Maria from Mozambique will act as the Match Commissioner, while South African Victor Miguel de Freitas Gomes will serve as the Referee Assessor.
This qualifier is vital for Ghana, who must secure a victory to maintain their slim chances of qualifying for AFCON, having only garnered two points from four matches.
