Former Black Stars head coach CK Akonnor has revealed the struggles he faced with player selection during his tenure, describing the process as “uncomfortable” and chaotic.
Akonnor, who served from 2020 to 2021, was dismissed after a poor start to Ghana’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. Speaking on Joy FM, he highlighted the pressure from Ghana Football Association (GFA) officials to justify his player choices.
“As a coach, you draw up your list based on plans, but the FA’s involvement often created disorganization,” he said, adding that the lack of collaboration made the process difficult.
Akonnor’s remarks have reignited debates over GFA’s influence and the Black Stars’ struggles, including their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, signaling deeper structural issues.
