As many as five Ghanaian players are facing relegation with their respective clubs in the La Liga this season.

International full-backs Lumor Agbenyenu and Abdul Rahman Baba, as well as defensive midfielder Iddrisu Baba are facing the threat of demotion with Real Mallorca, who are down to 18th on the table.

Mallorca had won two of their last four matches before the league was suspended due to the coronavirus but a home game against Barcelona on the return of the La Liga represents a particularly tough assignment.

Chelsea loanee Rahman Baba moved to Spain desperate for a fresh start, but the injury nightmare that began at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations hasn’t ended.

He was ruled out for two months in September after suffering a partial team to the lateral ligament in his right knee, and will again be missing for the league’s resumption.

There’s also Ghanaian interest at Celta Vigo, where centre-back Joseph Aidoo has made 23 appearances so far as his side at lowly 17th on the table.

It’s been a steep learning curve for Aidoo after his recent move from Genk, and it’s worth remembering that the stopper was playing in Swedish football with Hammarby IF as recently as 2017.

He made his Ghana debut last season, and could have a key role to play for the national side across 2021 and 2022.

Frustratingly for Celta, their form had been encouraging before the league’s suspension—they were unbeaten in five—and will be desperate to pick up that form when they host Villarreal on Saturday.

There is another Ghanaian interest at Real Valladolid where centre-back Mohammed Salisu has been one of the revelations of the season so far.

The Manchester United target has been one of the key reasons why the strugglers have the best defensive record in the bottom half of the table despite lying 15th on the log.

Accra-born Salisu, a graduate of the club’s academy, has recently been linked with a move to Manchester United, who are understood to be considering a £10.4 million deal for the youngster.

Salisu should have ample opportunity to impress before the season comes to an end.
