The leader of Ghana national team’s medics Dr Percy Annan is seething with rage over claims by midfielder Michael Essien that he misdiagnosed his injury.

The Chelsea star was missed the World Cup in June because of the injury he suffered while training with the Black Stars at the African Cup of Nations in Angola in January.

Essien suggested that the injury could have ended his career because early attempts to deal with the issue in Angola were not satisfactory which aggravated his condition.

But Dr. Annan, who also deals with most of the injuries with the Ghana army, says he will issue a press statement to reveal what transpired.

The Ghana team doctor insists he will point out why Essien is wrong in his assertion.

Essien told a UK magazine last month that when he suffered the injury during a training session in Angola, the initial assessment by the Ghana medical team was wide off the mark.

“I knew it wasn’t the same injury as before, but when the doctor came he quite scared me because he said I’d done the same thing again,” Essien said.

“I told him, ‘No, no, no’. I knew it wasn’t the same, it wasn’t the same pain, but he insisted.

“I got angry and in the end I told him to leave the room and let me relax.

“I came back to England, had another scan and they said it was the cartilage and meniscus, like I thought.”
