Accra, Sep. 10, GNA - John Kojo Hasford scored six points from seven games to win the Third National Open Chess Championship played at the North Ridge Hotel in Accra on Saturday.

Accra, Sep. 10, GNA - John Kojo Hasford scored six points from seven games to win the Third National Open Chess Championship played at the North Ridge Hotel in Accra on Saturday. Robert Sackey and Kees Hopgend came second with five points, while Michael Amanor took the third position with four points. The event, organised by the Ghana Chess Association, is aimed at whipping up enthusiasm of the game in the country. Mr Edward Thompson, Tournament Director of the Association called on corporate bodies, institutions and individuals to help develop the sport. He called on the youth to take active interest in the game so that they would build upon their knowledge and experience. An Under 15 tournament would be held in Accra on Saturday, September 30. 10 Sept. 06
