Honduras must play their next home match behind closed doors after Mexico coach Javier Aguirre was struck by a full beer can during a Concacaf Nations League quarter-final.
Aguirre, left bleeding, was hit while approaching Honduras coach Reinaldo Rueda for a post-match handshake following Honduras' 2-0 victory in the first leg.
Concacaf disciplined Honduras for inadequate stadium security, imposing a fine and warning of harsher penalties for future incidents.
The Mexican Football Federation condemned the attack, calling it unacceptable, while Rueda admitted the incident marred Honduras’ victory.
Concacaf is also investigating Aguirre’s conduct during the game. The quarter-final's second leg is scheduled for November 20, with the winner securing a spot in the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup in Canada and the United States.
