Former Black Stars assistant coach Ibrahim Tanko has defended head coach Otto Addo, urging patience amid calls for his dismissal following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Black Stars finished last in their group, marking the first time in 20 years Ghana will miss the tournament.
Despite criticism, Addo's leadership has secured two wins in the ongoing 2026 World Cup qualifiers, keeping Ghana in contention for the tournament.
Tanko believes Addo deserves another chance, highlighting the challenges he faced and his past achievement of leading Ghana to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Tanko also cited the risks of sacking Addo, including financial costs and uncertainty about a replacement's effectiveness. The GFA will decide Addo’s future in an upcoming Executive Council meeting.
