Former Black Stars defender John Paintsil has rejected claims he is indebted to ex-teammate Derek Boateng to the tune of $20,000.
Boateng, the retired midfielder, has sued Paintsil in bid to retrieve the cash which the latter purportedly borrowed from him while at the national team camp during the South Africa 2010 FIFA World Cup.
In a writ, Boateng is demanding the $20,000 plus interest at commercial bank rate from the date the defendant collected the money till date of final payment.
Also the former Fulham and Getafe star is asking the defendant to cover his legal fees and cost.
But speaking to Kasapa FM Sports, Paintsil stated: “I have received summons from court over the said issue and I have discussed the matter with my lawyer to take the necessary legal actions.
“All I can say is that I don’t owe Derek.”
“I don’t owe him a penny, but since the matter is now in court I will less talk about and leave it to the judiciary to decide whether I owe him or not,” he added.
Meanwhile, all efforts were done to reach Dereck Boateng the plaintiff but to no avail.
