Former Black Stars and Asante Kotoko forward, Rev. Osei Kofi has kicked against the suggestions that winners of the Normalization Committee Special Competition should be made to represent Ghana in Africa if the current league is truncated.
Kotoko and Ashanti Gold who were winners of tier 1 and tier 2 of the NC Competition last year were given the nod to represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup respectively.
Following an unimpressive display, both teams were sent home after the preliminary stages as they failed to reach the group stages of the various competitions.
Speaking on why Ghanaian clubs are unable to excel in Africa these days, Rev. Osei Kofi attributed it to the low standard of the league in the country.
“The low standard of our league always brings the early exit of our clubs from Africa competitions”, the celebrated footballer told West FM.
He further noted that it is wrong to allow clubs who won the NC Cup competitions last year to play in CAF’s inter-club competitions.
“It's wrong to use Normalization Competition to play Africa competitions”, Rev. Osei Kofi shared.
It is unclear what will happen to the football season in the country, but should it be canceled, it is possible that the winners of tier 1 and 2 of the NC Competition will represent Ghana again in Africa next season.
