Black Stars defender John Boye has set an unwanted 2019 Africa Cup of Nations record by becoming the first player to be shown the red card in the ongoing tournament in Egypt.
The 32-year-old centre back was sent off for a second bookable offense during Ghana’s 2-2 draw with Benin in their opening Group F game on Tuesday.
The FC Metz star first went into the books of the Tunisian referee on the 37th minute after a horrible tackle on Benin midfielder Sessi D’Almeida.
He was controversially given his marching orders on the 55th minute by the referee for time wasting.
Boye will miss the next game against Cameroon on June 29, but will be available for selection in the final group encounter against Guinea-Bissau.
