William Opoku Mensah's first-half strike helped Asante Kotoko earn a slender 1-0 victory over Karela United in the Ghana Premier League on Independence Day.
The Porcupine Warriors claimed all three points at the Akoon Park in Tarkwa to go top of the league. However, that could change depending on the outcome of matches Aduana Stars, Medeama and Berekum Chelsea this weekend.
The former Karela United captain was at the right place in the box to control a beautiful pass before applying a brilliant finish to give Kotoko the lead inside four minutes.
Karela United tried as much as they can to restore parity but to no avail as Kotoko run away with the three points.
While Kotoko fans are celebrating this huge win, they will also be excited with the comeback appearance of striker Songne Yacouba.
The Burkinabe came on to play 18 minutes of the match and he did impress. He had been out of the team since matchday 5 due to contract issues.
It is, however, unclear if Yacouba has reached a deal to extend his stay with the Porcupine Warriors.
