Asante Kotoko board chairman Dr. Kwame Kyei is reportedly not interested in the sacking of coach Mariano Barreto.
The Portuguese trainer joined the Porcupine Warriors on a one and half year deal as Maxwell Konadu’s successor prior to the start of the second round of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League campaign.
Despite joining the club middle of the season, he guided the Kumasi-based club to a second placed finish in the just-ended domestic top-flight season.
The 64-year-old is currently in his native country, Portugal for holidays and his return to Ghana has taken nosedive as reports in the local media outlet suggest Kotoko will part ways with him following his unhealthy statement about the club.
But according to Kumasi-based Kessben FM, the business mogul, Kwame Kyei is against the sacking of the coach and will instruct board secretary, Lawyer Kwamina Mensah to inform the coach to return to Ghana and complete his remaining one-year contract.
This is because Kotoko is not ready pay any compensation to the former Black Stars coach.
