President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged the senior national team, the Black Stars, to end their over three decades’ trophy drought at the Africa Cup of Nations at this year’s tournament.
The Black Stars last won the Nations Cup in 1982 and has since lost three finals in 1992, 2010, and 2015.
Mr Akufo-Addo, in a Facebook post, wished the players well ahead of the start of the 2017 edition of the tournament to be hosted in Gabon on Saturday, January 14.
“Best wishes to the players, technical and management team of the Black Stars. It's time to end our 34-year wait for the AFCON trophy. We can do it. Go for gold!” he posted on Friday evening.
Ghana has been paired in Group D with Egypt, Uganda and Mali.
