Ethiopia beat Zimbabwe on Tuesday to go level on points with Ghana in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
After their 1-0 defeat in Ghana, Ethiopia produced an improved performance to claim a deserved 1-0 victory at Bahir Dar Stadium.
Central defender Aschalew Tamene kept his composure and scored the winning goal from the penalty spot.
The Walia ibex home win has blown Group G wide open with three countries now capable of topping the group with four games remaining.
South Africa by virtue of their impressive win over Ghana lead Group G with four points.
Ghana and Ethiopia have the same points, three but the four-time African champions are second because of last Friday's victory.
Zimbabwe are last with one point which they picked up in their first match against South Africa.
The next matches of the group have been scheduled for early October.
Ethiopia face-off with South Africa in a home and away, the same as Ghana's meeting with Zimbabwe.
