Actor John Dumelo has asked for God’s blessing for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for posthumously promoting Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama to the rank of Major in the Ghana Armed Forces.
The President announced the promotion on Monday evening when he visited the widow and grieving family of the late military officer who was lynched by residents of Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region a week ago on suspicion of being an armed robber.
Mr Dumelo, who is a key supporter of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), the party which says Mr Akufo-Addo should be blamed for the heinous crime, took to Twitter to thank the president for the honour he has bestowed on the deceased soldier.
“Late Captain Mahama promoted to the rank of Major. Thanks @NAkufoAddo. God bless you,” Mr Dumelo said in a tweet.
In addition to his posthumous promotion, Nana Akufo-Addo also announced a GHS500,000 trustee fund to be set up for the Mahama family. He personally pledged to donate seed capital of GHS50,000 for the fund.
