Hiplife icon Okyeame Kwame, also known as Rap Dacta, expressed concern over the dominance of American culture, coined as "Californianism," in Ghanaian media.

During an interview on Channel One TV’s The Chat, he highlighted how American movies, music, and media platforms like iTunes and Spotify have overshadowed local genres like Hiplife and Highlife.

Okyeame Kwame emphasized the challenge for Ghanaian artists to maintain visibility and authenticity amidst this cultural influx, urging them to preserve their roots despite the economic pressures to conform to global trends.

He stressed the importance of being intentional about preserving the Ghanaian sound amid global influences.
