Rapper Strongman
Ghanaian rapper, Vincent Kwaku Osei, popularly known as Strongman, has expressed that rap music is still relevant in the Ghanaian music industry.
He made this statement in relation to people’s opinions on rap losing its grounds.
Not agreeing or disagreeing with this claim, he stated, it is difficult to commercialize rap music these days because today’s youth, especially the male prefer tunes they can dance to party with because they are outgoing.
“Unlike before when rap was everywhere, now, no one will want to go to bloombar and listen to rap music. They’ll rather want something they can dance and party with.”
He told Foster Romanus on e.TV Ghana’s Late Nite Celebrity Show, “Rap music will still sell but these days, a lot of boys like to party, so they will obviously choose other songs over rap music.
This is one reason why a lot of artistes today try to blend rap with singing so everyone can get the part they can relate to in a song.”
Citing an example he said, “Kwesi Arthur, for example, is a hardcore rapper but now he tries to blend both the singing and rapping so his listeners can get a little bit of everything”.
Strongman believes that rap is not dying and will not die now but as artistes, “We can’t stick to a particular genre we have to be versatile. This is also a way of showing our fans our capabilities.”
