UNESCO to list highlife as Ghana’s intangible heritage this year

Ama Serwah Nerquaye-Tetteh, Secretary General of Ghana's UNESCO Commission, announced that highlife music will be recognized as Ghana's intangible heritage by UNESCO this year.

She confirmed Ghana's sole claim to highlife origin, stating no contesting claims from other countries.

This follows Ghana's efforts, including conferences by cultural bodies, to secure UNESCO recognition akin to reggae and rhumba.
