Ghanaian actor Kofi Adjorlolo has indicated that the COVID-19 pandemic has worsened the helpless situation that pertains in the film industry.

He explained that acting has become very difficult because it is impossible to wear masks on set or adhere to other safety protocols.

In an interview with Nana Romeo Welewele on Accra100.5FM’s mid-morning radio show Ayekoo Ayekoo on Thursday, 2 July 2020, Kofi Adjorlolo explained: “It has been very difficult”, adding: “For me, when I started acting, it was like acting was a pension work”.

“I have been in the media for a very long time. Because acting has been my only profession for some time now, it has been very difficult. The nature of the job is such that we cannot act with nose masks on. If there is a crowd scene, it’s not possible to act.”

He added that in these times, if an actor is asked to be on any set, he or she must “think carefully about it.”

Kofi Adjorlolo added that even though the calls keep coming, if he decides to work amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, provisions must be made to ensure his safety and that of others.

“Nowadays, because of the COVID-19, I tell the producers that if, even, I decide to act, we must agree that they will provide Veronica buckets for hand washing, sanitisers and all or else it will be worrying. Even before coronavirus, where was the job? How much more now that coronavirus is around,” he wondered.

He, however, hoped that things will change for the better.

Kofi Adjorlolo has starred in movies such as “Single and Married”, “Heart of Men”, “Falling” and “Ghana Must Go” among others, with 11 awards (local and international) to his credit.
