15 ‘NDC’ assembly members storm out of meeting because DCE ‘insulted’ Collins Dauda

Some 15 assembly members of the Asutifi South District in the Brong Ahafo region, aligned to the opposition NDC walked out of an assembly meeting, accusing their district chief executive, Robert Dwumor Mensah of insulting the MP for Asutifi Soth Collins Dauda.

According to the assembly members, the DCE has been abusing the MP verbally on several FM stations, claiming Alhaji Dauda is a “senseless” man instigating mayhem in the area.

The 15 assembly members have given the Asutifi South DCE 15 days to retract his comment against Collins Dauda.

They have threatened to boycott subsequent assembly meetings if Robert Dwumor Mensah fails to retract, TV3’s Kofi Takyi reports.

“[The DCE said a grown up person like Hon. Collins Dauda with grey hair is senseless…that is why we are angry,” Mr. Yaw Okyere who is the longest serving assembly member in the Asutifi South, recounted to TV3.

During the meeting, Mr. Okyere who has served since 1989 challenged the presiding member Abraham Oppong Berko to compel the DCE to retract his disparaging words against the MP.

When Abraham Berko refused to honour his demand, the 15 assembly members immediately called for a boycott of the meeting.

The plea by the presiding member for them to calm down to enable the house to continue proceedings proved futile.

Meanwhile, the district chief executive of Asutifi South, Robert Dwumor Mensah denied insulting the MP.

“I never insulted my MP, I never spoke against him, I spoke exactly what happened there, what I saw, what everybody saw, what I heard, what everybody heard.”

However, the remaining 26 assembly members together with other officials continued the proceeding.
