Deputy Chief of Staff Francis Asenso-Boakye has defeated Daniel Okyem Aboagye to be the parliamentary candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) for the Bantama Constituency in the Ashanti Region.
Bantama, a ‘world bank’ of the governing NPP, has had one of the fiercest contests across the country, with accusations of vote-buying and intimidation.
Earlier today during voting, confusion erupted when an agent of Okyem Aboagye attempted to prevent a delegate and worker with the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) from voting.
Mr Okyem Aboagye who became Member of Parliament in 2016 is headed out as Asenso-Boakye prepares to go in since Bantama is a major stronghold of the NPP.
Provisional results suggest that Francis Asenso-Boakye garnered 455 votes as against Okyem Aboagye who had 122 votes amidst complaints the elections have been flawed.
