The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has lauded the Eastern Regional Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their commitment and dedication to duty to ensuring the growth of the party even in the stronghold of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He said their spirited performance in all elections in the region over the years clearly demonstrates their love and loyalty for the umbrella family.

“I thank you for working tirelessly for the progress of the NDC even in the stronghold of our political opponents, the New Patriotic Party (NPP)”, he noted.

Hon. Bagbin who is contesting for the vacant flagbearer position of the NDC acknowledged the hard work of the Eastern Regional executives of the party when he paid a courtesy call on them on Friday, October 19, 2018.

The Nadowli/Kaleo lawmaker had called on the regional executives to congratulate them for their immense contributions to the progress of the party; discuss with them some of the teething challenges confronting the party; and to seek their permission to tour the region as well as for their support for the flagbearership race of the party which he is contesting.

Hon. Bagbin commenting further bemoaned some of the challenges confronting the orphan constituencies of the party and noted that it is about time the party was restructured to support those constituencies.

Some of the regional executives who were very enthused about Hon. Bagbin’s visit also shared some concerns confronting the party.

For instance, they said the imposition of some people from different places on them when the party was in government grimly affected their fortunes in the 2016 general elections.

They expressed the hope that such mistakes, if well noted by the party, should not be repeated when they win back power from the NPP in the 2020 general elections.

The response of Hon. Bagbin to the issues were that it is as a result of these concerns that proposals have been made to amend the constitution to address them. He believes that when approved at Congress, it will become binding on all future presidents to ensure that power remains with the party whether in power or out of power.

This proposed constitutional amendment, if adopted, will transcend down to the regions, the districts and the constituencies, stressing that it is the party that forms the government and not the other way round.
