The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has attributed the challenge of finding housemaids in Ghana to the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme.
Speaking to the Greater Accra Regional clergy during his tour, Dr. Bawumia highlighted that many girls who previously worked as maids are now attending school, thanks to the initiative, which doubled enrollment from 800,000 to over 1.6 million.
He emphasised the programme’s role in reducing gender disparity, with more girls than boys now attending SHS.
Dr. Bawumia also noted improvements in student performance and stressed the long-term educational benefits for Ghana.
