Former President John Mahama has dismissed reports suggesting that he will announce his running mate for the 2020 elections today in a Facebook live address.
A photo of Mr Mahama and former education minister posing together as a pair for the NDC are making rounds on Facebook and other social media platforms. The image is accompanied by a caption that suggests Mr Mahama is ready to announce the academician as his running tonight.
However, responding to the development on Facebook, the NDC flagbearer who said the process of nominating a running has not been exhausted yet.
“The selection of a running mate is done by the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in consultation with the Council of Elders and the National Executive Committee of the Party.
“There has been no meeting of either of the two bodies called for this purpose. How would any person believe that I am going to announce a running mate at 5 pm today?”.
Mr Mahama is scheduled to speak to his supporters through Facebook later today.
It comes after the annual delegates conference of the ruling NPP where he was the main target for many of the speakers.
