Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP's 2024 flagbearer, has pledged to realign government spending to prioritise the private sector if elected president, aiming to drive economic growth through private enterprise.
As Vice President and Head of the Economic Management Team, he noted the challenges of excessive government borrowing, which strains fiscal stability and key economic indicators.
Speaking to the Labour Union Forum in Accra, Dr. Bawumia emphasised addressing macroeconomic issues to prevent negative impacts on the micro-economic level.
He proposed reducing government size and expenditure to avoid increased taxes and borrowing, fostering a more resilient and robust economy.
