An attempt by former President John Dramani Mahama and his cohorts to twist a statement by Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin in their favour has been foiled.

After a fraternal visit by former President Mahama to the Okyenhene Palace yesterday, the Eastern Regional Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dallas Williams, in a Facebook post, quoted the Okyenhene as saying, “If JM wronged anybody, let us forgive him and give him another chance.”

But Ofori Panin Fie, in a release signed by D.M. Ofori-Atta, State Secretary, debunked the purported comments, saying “Ofori Panin Fie has learnt with utter shock the deliberate and disrespectful misrepresentation of comments of the Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin a few hours ago today.

“The fact rather is the Okyenhene condemned the politics of insults and acrimony in the country, making reference to the conduct of Mr. Stan Dogbe, who last year made unworthy comments on his person with regard to his statement on the demise of the former Vice President, H.E. Amissah Arthur.”

The statement further explained that the Okyenhene added that just as Christ in the midst of agony and pain forgave His enemies, he found it worthy to forgive Stan Dogbe.

It said Okyenhene urged politicians to forgive one another in the spirit of the season just as Christ did even on the cross, stressing that the remarks were made in the spirit of the New Year.

“May it be noted that the Okyenhene is not an interested party in the internal leadership contest of the NDC. The publication is irresponsible and provocative; thus we demand an immediate retraction. Ofori Panin Fie does not want to believe that the mischievous publication of Mr. Dallas Williams has the sanction of the highest leadership of the NDC,” the statement added.
