The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has inaugurated its 2020 manifesto committee as the beginning of campaign to reclaim power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The inauguration was held at the party’s headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, October 23.
It wraps up wide stakeholder consultation embarked upon by the party’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama.
The former president has already hinted that the manifesto will be “bottom-up” in far departure from previous ones.
The committee will be chaired by a former Minister of Health, Professor Kwaku Danso Boafo, who also once served as Ghana’s Ambassador to Cuba.
Members of the committee are Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu, a Deputy General Secretary, Peter Boamah Otokunor, and Dr William Ahadzie, the Rector of NDC’s Ghana Institute of Social Democracy.
The others are presidential aspirants Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, Augustus Goosie Tanoh, former Gender Minister Nana Oye Lithur, former Education Minister Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Alex Mould and Sam P Yalley.
The rest are Dr Rashid Haruna, Sebastien Dery, Napoleon Kpoh, Fiifi Opoku, Benedicta Lassi, Dr Alhassan Yakubu, Michael Abbey, Mavis Ama Frimpong and Professor Asiamah.
They will be joined by a representative from the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and one other.
According to the National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, who inaugurated the committee, once consultations are done, those persons will be brought on board.
The committee’s work is expected to be reviewed by veterans of the party led by Professor Kwamena Ahwoi.
Their work will be communicated to the public by National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi and Director of Communications Kakra Essmuah.
Former President Mahama charged the committee to consult the policy working groups as the party gears up to save Ghanaians from “this sinking ship”.
He said the party aims at designing a manifesto “from the people, by the people and for the people.”
