Emmanuel Boakye (pronounced 'Bo-ah-chee') was born in Ejura, Ghana, on 25 March 1985. He moved to The Netherlands in 1993 and played for amateur side Zuidvogels as a child, as well as for the FC Utrecht youth as a teenager. Ajax scouts discovered him in 2000. The defender, who can play as a right fullback but also in the centre, joined the Ajax B1 youth team in 2000.
He was promoted from the famous Ajax academy in 2005
He started the 2005-06 season with Young Ajax, but was added to the first squad in the fall of 2005, as many Ajax defenders were injured or suspended at the time.
Boakye made his first team début on 24 September 2005 in the Eredivisie home game against Roda JC. Three more Eredivisie appearances for Ajax-1 followed.
- July 2006: Heracles has reached an agreement [come to terms] with Ajax over highly rated Emmanuel Boakye. He will play a minimum of 1 season in Almelo. Boakye who has received a lot of attention from Clubs including Sparta Rotterdam has come to an agreement with the Club.
- June 2007: Heracles Almelo have completed the permanent signing of Emmanuel Boakye from Ajax. The defender had spent last season on loan at Heracles and had been deemed surplus to requirements at Ajax next term. Heerenveen and Racing Genk were also sweet on the Ghanaian, but Heracles have persuaded Boakye to sign a three-year contract.
