A political science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, (KNUST) Dr Kwesi Amakye Boateng says government’s flagship educational policy of free SHS has lots of terrible elements which is likely to affect its success.
According to him, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lost the 2016 general election simply because the party could not market itself well on the issue of free education it claimed to have started at the time.
“Looking at the free education itself, the NDC couldn’t market itself because Nana Addo’s Free Education has terrible elements in it. No matter what the government would do, the policy will not work” Dr. Amakye revealed on Angel Fm’s morning show hosted by Kwame Tanko last Thursday and monitored by MyNewsGh.com.
Explaining further, Dr. Amakye pointed to the fact that, if teachers are not well treated free education will not work adding that the government must seek for the welfare of it teachers in the country.
Dr. Amakye Boateng also declared his intention to contest for the 2020 presidential elections as independent candidate observing that leaders of the country’s two major political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have failed the citizens.
He advised the government to consult seasoned political scientists to advise them on certain issues especially policies before implementing them if the desire to make some remarkable achievements.
This is not the first time somebody has criticized the free SHS policy.
Since its implementation in September 2017, the government has received lots of criticisms mostly from media reportage on its shortcoming.
In some instances, reports suggested some students had to sleep under trees due to lack of dormitory accommodation forcing authorities to convert dining halls into dormitories for students.
