The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) defended its decision not to support the recent strike against illegal mining, citing its independence from the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
Dr. Frank Serebour, GMA President, emphasized that while the association condemns illegal mining’s destructive impact, it would not join the strike organized by labour unions.
He stated the decision was made collectively by the GMA Council on October 3, 2024, and criticized the public leak of this decision, which fueled unnecessary controversy.
The GMA's 66th Annual General Conference, attended by over 1,000 members, focused on fostering technology and professionalism in Ghana's health sector.
