The Minister of Education and Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has revealed that some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) did not believe in the feasibility of government’s flagship policy, Free Senior High School (SHS).
He made this revelation in an exclusive interview with Kwame Tanko on Angel FM’s flagship program, Angel in the Morning on Tuesday.
The minister in his submission stated that his party members lost hope in the policy and called on the president to cancel and apologize to Ghanaians.
“My own party members, in fact high ranking members doubted the Free SHS implementation and asked the government to cancel and apologize to Ghanaians for our inability to fulfill the promise for which we were voted. It is too big a project to implement, let’s explain to Ghanaians, call it off and move on, we can’t sustain it…but we stood our grounds,” he said.
Napo as the Education Minister is known and called further explained that those members disliked him and wanted his ministry to fail.
“I’m not surprised if the National Democratic Congress condemns the policy because my party members even said I couldn’t handle the Ministry. Why hand over such a big ministry to a young man, Napo, cannot handle such a position. All because they dislike me; but here we’re today showering praises on the policy”, he revealed further on the show.
The outspoken Legislator, however, indicated that the government was committed to ensuring that quality education is not compromised in the program.
