Former Akwatia MP Baba Jamal has claimed that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's choice of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as his running mate was driven by regional politics rather than competence.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s "The Big Issue," Jamal argued that Bawumia faced pressure to select an Ashanti from the NPP’s stronghold, hence his decision to choose Prempeh, a key Ashanti figure from Manhyia.
Jamal dismissed Prempeh's selection as being about political strategy, not his achievements, suggesting Bawumia needed Prempeh's solid party reputation to bolster his own acceptability within the NPP.
